The lowdown is a registered charity providing free and confidential counselling, information and support services to 12-25 year olds. We also provide support to parents, carers and professionals who are concerned with the welfare of young people. Based in the heart of Northampton's town centre, we have a dedicated and fully trained team of staff and volunteers. We hold the original PQASSO Quality Mark and are currently working towards the SAIG quality mark. To make sure we continue to deliver high standards, we are members of the British Association of Counselling Practice (BACP) and Youth Access and are affiliated to Advice UK.
"I would like to express my gratitude for the skill and kindness you have shown my daughter in her time with you at the lowdown. I know you have shown her the life skills to keep uncovering the great girl she is so that she can believe it and blossom. Many, many thanks"
from a parent of a young person who used our service
We have over 20 years of experience in supporting young people.
We pride ourselves on understanding what's important to young people and stay in close touch with their concerns, issues and interests.
Since opening our doors in 1989, the lowdown has supported thousands of young people who have told us their lives have changed for the better.
Confidentiality policy
The lowdown provides a confidential service. The only exceptions to this are the legal requirements of declaring Terrorism and Drug Trafficking offences and Safeguarding issues. Safeguarding policies mean that in exceptional circumstances, we will disclose information where we believe a young person or those known to them have been or may be in danger. (We will endeavour to gain prior consent from the individual before doing this). the lowdown does not insist on obtaining service user contact details, therefore disclosure may not be possible.
In all other circumstances, we will not pass on any service users information to anyone outside the agency unless it is at the service users request.
